DMARC monitoring: watch _dmarc before spoofers do

DMARC monitoring is how you notice the policy record drifted—or never left p=none—before phishers and bulk-sender rules do. CrowWake’s check is a public DNS read of _dmarc, not a full XML-report analyzer.

What DMARC monitoring means here

Operators searching for DMARC monitoring usually want an early rooster: is _dmarc still published, and is policy still stuck on observe-only? CrowWake answers with the live TXT at _dmarc, flags missing records as fail, and warns when p=none (monitor without blocking). It sits beside SPF, DKIM, and MX so “the policy vanished” shows up in the same flock as “the include broke.”

What CrowWake checks

We resolve TXT at _dmarc.yourdomain for v=DMARC1. Healthy policy published → ok (summary shows the record). Missing → fail. Present but p=none → warn so you remember observe-only is not enforcement. The free DMARC checker uses the same public lookup with no login—the same signal the hourly probe uses. CrowWake does not ingest rua XML reports in v1.

Monitoring vs “what is DMARC”

The DMARC guide explains policy shape, rua, and the path from p=none to quarantine/reject. Monitoring is the repeat job: catch a deleted _dmarc after a zone rebuild, or a forever-p=none that never tightened. Both use the same free DMARC checker; CrowWake just repeats the pulse every hour. Pair with SPF and DKIM so alignment senders stay inventoriable before you raise p=.

What “good enough” looks like

A live _dmarc TXT with v=DMARC1. Start with p=none plus rua while you inventory ESPs, then move to p=quarantine or p=reject once legitimate mail passes SPF/DKIM alignment. One policy record—not competing _dmarc rows. BIMI comes later, only after enforcement.

Quick triage when DMARC goes yellow or red

1) Re-run the free DMARC checker and read the live _dmarc TXT (or “missing”). 2) If missing, publish a starter p=none with rua, then re-check. 3) If p=none forever, inventory senders with SPF + DKIM checkers before tightening. 4) Confirm MX still points where you expect if inbound delivery also moved. 5) Add the domain so CrowWake crows on the next drift instead of waiting for a spoof or spam complaint.

If CrowWake crows

Treat the failing check as source of truth: missing vs p=none vs broken syntax are different jobs. Use the DMARC how-to for paste-ready DNS shape, re-run the free DMARC checker, then keep watching. CrowWake monitors the record—it does not rewrite SendGrid alignment or parse aggregate XML for you.

Watch this on CrowWake

Add the domain, leave the boxes checked, and the flock will crow when this drifts.
